Art is such a wonderful gift…and crafts as well.
Many small local shops and galleries usually have a some sort of holiday show, sale, bazaar and offer opportunities for buying something made with love and care, usually by a local artisan, to give as a gift to someone special.
This is also a chance to contribute to local communities and especially welcome is the thought that an artist actually sees a small profit for their time and energy as well as an encouragement to create more wonderful things!

What a sense of satisfaction to both the artist and the recipient when such a gift solicits a warm comment about how perfect a painting looks in a setting of your choosing or else how beautiful a scarf looks against your coat….or earrings dangling from your ears are seen with a smile and a small sense of delight.
Buy local, buy art, support artists and have a wonderful holiday!

When you make something that’s one thing…what to do with it after that can become a problem.
I am currently running out of wall and storage space for a great many of my “Story Boxes” and other assemblage pieces. My friend, Boris Novak, from the Netherlands has urged me to upload art to the Saatchi Online Gallery….which I finally did this morning. Only one piece, so far, as I am getting ready to head out the door for work….but it seems like an excellent vehicle for getting one’s work seen and possibly sold.

This piece titled “Shoebox” has a scrap of hand printed wallpaper as a backdrop and leather shoes and tools from an 1841 general store which was on property my folks once owned in Colebrook, CT. The tools are beautifully worn from years of use and the small shoes once graced the feet of children long ago….soles have been repaired numerous times. Our society was not originally a ‘throw away’ one!!

Spent last night attending the Opening Reception, Awards and Juror’s talk at the Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon, CT. A wonderful show, nicely hung by Fisher Gallery Manager Jim Brunelle, and a great collection of pieces accepted into this show….quite a wide variety and something for everyone. If you get a chance please stop by to see the wonderful work on display. The show runs from October 7th until October 31st and Fisher Gallery hours are Wednesday – Saturday 12 AM – 4 PM or by appointment 860.678.1867.

I was happy to receive an Honorable Mention for my piece “Verboten”.

Untitled collage accepted into 44th Annual Open Juried Show at the Gallery on the Green in Canton, CT.

Show runs from the 7th of October through the 6th of November. Opening Reception and awards ceremony on October 15th from 6-9pm.
